Hi everyone! During the term break, if you plan on using a special ability for the next term, you will need to "register" your ability here. It's a simple process to register your ability - all you have to do is fill out the questionnaire below and post it on this thread.

Please click here for a full list of the approved special abilities and their descriptions. These descriptions are meant to show how these special abilities fit into the HP universe we have created for this game. If you plan to use a special ability with any sort of variation/deviation from the description, you must list how your character will differ here. A head admin will need to approve your variance in order for you to use it in the upcoming term. Members may only have one character with a special ability per term.

Please note you can also apply to use a special ability that is not listed on the description thread, however you will need to have it approved before the term starts. Under the variances portion of the questionnaire, please list ALL features of the special ability (including any bonus powers and drawbacks).

Any member who does not register their ability before the next term starts will not be able to use a special ability for that term. This includes new members. If a new member starts in the middle of a term, they will be unable to use a special ability until the next registration is open.

Please also remember that learned abilities (as listed in the description thread) are limited to 6th and 7th year "students", unless you have a compelling reason why they would have learned it sooner. Please list your reasoning in your registration.

Please note that this system applies to characters with special abilities only. Characters with no special ability can be created at any time during the term, and there are no restrictions on how many characters with no special ability members may have.

Although her mood is affected by other's energy, she is often able to control her mood and able to put others around her in ease. Username: Anne Character name: Elizabeth Amalia Covington Character's age and year: 15; 5th year Character's house: Slytherin Special ability: Parselmouth Character's special ability background: It's an inherited ability and comes from the father's side of the family. Elizabeth's grandfather probably used parseltongue, but she doesn't know because he died before she discovered the ability. Due to the fact that Parseltongue was associated with the dark arts and Voldemort, the Covington family rather stayed silent about their heritage in the dark times. Elizabeth's father even refused to speak it which makes it difficult for him to actually understand parseltongue. Nowadays, her parents are more open about it. (The origin of the ability appearing in the Covington family lies in the 16th century; where it was simply an illegitimate son. Although illegitimate children weren't considered a full-part of the family, the boy was approved as a 'real' Covington later when the family needed someone to pass the family name on.) She doesn't have much control over it, and she feels that it alienates her from others, so she mostly keeps to herself to avoid accidentally hearing others' thoughts. Uncle Alfred (who happens to also be a werewolf - it seems to run in the family) said he'd heard this was a lucky omen, but it meant I was bullied from a really young age. Uncle had taken me out into the fields on a full moon for years, but nothing happened until I was 5. He wouldn't explain why it took so many moons for me to turn into a werewolf, and I know Mother thought that he had bitten me, as she didn't speak to him for a few years after that." Any additional features/variances of the special ability: Exceptional swimmer and can hold breath for longer than normal. If they sing, their voice can have adverse effects on others, usually ending in a trancelike-state though other effects have been known. I sMailed Bennet my request to add Part-Merfolk to the list of breeds (since I do believe they should be included since there have been http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Mirabella_Plunkett">known instances of humans falling in love with and marrying merfolk.)

Part-Merfolk Part-Merperson are those that are born with both human and merfolk parentage. Part-Merpeople are usually average in human size. While their full-blooded counterparts possess fins and gills, part breeds typically do not, though they do inherit excellent swimming abilities and can hold their breath for longer than a normal person. As a result of their lineage they usually drink a lot of water and take long showers/baths to soak. Part-Merfolk do not possess any additional magical abilities, however, they do often have a wonderful singing voice that can have effects over others, including a trance-like state. They have other artistic aptitudes such as jewelry-making, drawing/painting, and sculpting. Most can understand Mermish but less than half can speak it fluently.

Username: leafling19 Character name: Drew Wilder Character's age and year: 15, 5th year Character's house: Slytherin Special ability: communicating with equines Character's special ability background: (how they obtained the special ability - keep it short and sweet)Drew has been talking to horses in a special language (which his mum had always referred to as his gypsy talk) since he was around 9, but only began to notice that he could also understand any equines’ responses within the last two years. His bond with his own horse is strong and he has communicated with Fleet for years, but was somewhat startled to find that he could not only speak with, but also understand Thestrals his first term at Hogwarts. He can't truly translate for others what he says or tell how he understands an equine's response, but he can communicate with them. He loves all animals and speaks English to all of them, but with any type of equine it's an innate, natural ability to use a different language. He is not always even conscious of the fact that he is speaking in a different tongue. Any additional features/variances of the special ability: (if you are applying for a special ability, not on the list, please list what features your special ability will have)Drew doesn’t actually know how it happened or why he has this gift, but it can be likened to the equine equivalent of parseltongue.

Username: Character name: Emelia Morgana Bowen Character's age and year: 16, 6th Character's house: Hufflepuff Special ability: Animagus Character's special ability background: Emelia has never been an absolute top student in Transfiguration, though she finds it extraordinarily interesting. However, when she began animal transfigurations (turning objects into animals, or animals into other animals) she was unusually good at it. She has attributed this to her strong affinity for animals of all kinds, excelling in any subject where animals are concerned. Based on this knowledge, she began to read about animagi and decided she needed to become one. She nicked a couple of Mandrake leaves from the Greenhouses and pretended for most of a month that she had laryngitis as an excuse not to talk and risk revealing the leaf in her mouth. She knew her professor would think her foolish to try at such a young age, but she was determined. After a few years of intense studying outside of her normal schoolwork (and mostly in secret, because she was afraid her peers would mock her for such a lofty dream), she finally managed to mostly perfect her transformation.

Any additional features/variances of the special ability: She transforms into a fluffy Norwegian Forest cat. She is grey and brownish, with tabby markings and a white underbelly. Her eyes stay blue when she turns, and she a smattering of speckles over snout and around her whiskers that resemble her freckles as a human.

- can we change our characters name without "starting over"? I want her to be the same character, just use a different name, and I already have her approved for a special ability... (Niki in Ravenclaw) I'd like to change her name to Aisling (pronounced Ash-ling)
